All About Me

I know, where did Emma's come from if my name is Melissa, right? Well, when my family and I were sitting around our dinning room table discussing what we would name our bakery we were all trying to come up with the perfect name. My husband wanted to name it after me, and I wanted to name it for our family (because any business involves the whole family).  All I could come up with is Mama's bakery because our letters in our names were M's and A's (Melissa, Morgan, Anthony, Alyssa). This did not suit me.  So my sooo smart daughter (at the time was age 7) said "why don't you name it Emma's?" I didn't understand so she explained it to me "well mom, we have M's and A's, and if you say then phonically then they say Emma" Oh what a good idea so Emma's Bakery was born.  Well when I got pregnant again I knew his name would have to fit in to Emma's so Skyler is his name. Even though Emma is not my name if you call and ask for "Emma" you will be greeted with a friendly "Hello".

I got started doing this when I was a senior in high school, which was in 1992 (ouch!) I was determined to design and make my own wedding cake. I took all the basic classes and well did it. I must say it was large and beautiful. Then when I was in college my husband and I needed extra money so I worked for a small bakery in New Palestine. From there I became a stay home mom and in 2001 a good friend convinced me to set up a booth at our local farmer's market and from there my bakery grew.  After some professional training from a top cake designer and the development of my own recipes I'm still moving forward to where I want to be.  I love doing what I do, I have meet the nicest people and it has brought me closer to my community. Thanks to all who have supported me along the way.

Welcome
